Cloud Computing
Cloud engineer skills students should learn before advanced certifications
July 20, 2026
Cloud foundations become clearer when learners practice networking, storage, IAM, deployment, monitoring and cost control before chasing certifications.
Cloud computing is not only about memorizing services. Students need to understand how applications run, how users connect, how permissions are controlled and how costs grow when systems scale.
A strong foundation course should cover Linux basics, networking, compute, storage, databases, IAM, backups, monitoring and deployment patterns across AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
Hands-on assignments can include hosting a small Laravel or Node application, connecting a database, configuring access rules, setting up logs and documenting the monthly cost estimate.
After these basics, certification study becomes far more meaningful because students can connect exam topics to systems they have actually built and maintained.
